The Artist
Influenced at an early age by the drawings of my father and oldest brother, I knew as a young child that I wanted to become an artist. My creative journey began eighteen years ago when I was an art school student. During that time, I worked in an Art Gallery and Frame Shop in Atlanta, GA., and was introduced to very unique styles of custom framing which included the Art of Gilding. Little did I know at that time that I would soon develop a passion for the technique.I was always fascinated by century old techniques and traditions of Gold Leaf and its beauty when applied to various frame and glass projects. With many years of practice, I have mastered this skill and now I specialize in producing custom gilded frames and restoration. I have also developed a personal artistic style called "Verre Eglomise" which is a technique of painting on glass. The uniqueness of this style is that the paintings are created in reverse along with my signature. To see these wonderful images come to life on glass is such a gratifying feeling.
Culminating centuries of influence from prehistoric cave markings of primitive man to ancient Egyptian and classical sculptures; my work attempts to fuse both the primordial with the present to create an existential statement. My work also continues to bring to life figurative art forms whereby truth is revealed through gold and glass; and honesty is revealed through abstraction and distortion.
The materials that I use are just as diverse as my influences. They include gesso, clay, gold, copper and various other metallic leafs. These, along with layers of acrylic paint, varnishes and shellacs combine to create attractive and fascinating abstract works of art.
I hope that you are inspired in some way by my work and enjoy viewing the art as much as I enjoy creating the art.
